Successful Examples

Dog Biting

This dog displays severe aggression once the grooming tool appears in sight due to unpleasant grooming experience in the past. The dog will lunge and attack both the comb and its handler. The video showcases how dog trainer Angela tames the vicious poodle to a gorgeous poodle.

Resource Guarding

Will your dog protect their food or toy by growling, baring teeth, and showing tense eye contact when anyone approaches? If that’s the case, your dog probably has resource guarding issue.

People often try to confront the dog directly or use protective gear (like thick gloves) to retrieve the guarded items. However, these actions can be dangerous and may actually reinforce the dog’s guarding behavior, as the dog may double its efforts to prevent anyone from taking its resources in the future.

The goal of training, therefore, is to communicate to the dog that “humans are not a threat to your toys” and “humans decide when to allocate food”. Once the dog respects humans and sees them not as a threat but as providers of resources, the guarding behavior will usually cease.

Dog Aggression

If a dog shows aggression towards other dogs, it’s crucial to engage a professional to address this problem as soon as possible. The issue will not resolve itself and, if ignored, could lead to two potential outcomes.

The first scenario is displacement aggression: if the dog can’t reach its intended target, it may redirect its aggression to something or someone else nearby, such as a child or a passerby.

The second scenario is learned aggression: if the dog manages to bite its target, it may perceive this act as a “good” way to vent its frustration and anger. Consequently, your dog is more likely to repeat this aggressive behaviour in the future.

Territorial Aggression

If anyone attempts to enter the car and share the space with Kam Kam, he will attack as seen in the video. After completing the entire course, we received a thank you message from the owner that she is able to bring Kam Kam out now to travel around by vehicle.

Leash Pulling

It’s very common to see a dog pulling on the leash. If the problem does not address in a timely manner, it will likely escalate over time. At last, the constant pressure from leash pulling will both harm the dog and the handler’s muscles.

Frequently Asked Questions

What method will you use to train my dog?

Different dogs require different training strategies. First, dog trainer will identify the root cause of the problem. Then, they will introduce appropriate training methods, tools, and activities tailored to engage your dog effectively. Throughout the process, we will explain aspects of dog psychology to facilitate better communication between you and your dog.

Would my dog feel upset for training?

All methods used in our lessons are derived from scientific research and proven to be safe and harmless to dogs. We adopt the positive reinforcement method which physical punishment is forbidden. We aim to shape a balanced and satisfied dog by fulfilling their true needs. While we can’t guarantee the dog is extremely happy in the learning process—since learning often involves stepping out of their comfort zone—we can assure you that dogs experiencing behavioural problems are typically unhappy. In the long run, dog training is beneficial to you and your dog’s relationship. Through training, we aim to alleviate these behavioural issues, leading to a happier and healthier dog in the long term.

How can you guarantee my dog's behaviour will be improved and long lasting?

To what degree the problem can be improved and sustained depending on many factors, such as the dog’s learning ability, the frequency of practicing the assigned exercises and the owner’s willingness to adopt. Our dog trainer will demonstrate all the necessary skills needed to rehabilitate the dog in different circumstances and guide you through the process. Through consistent practice, we believe the behavioral issues can be gradually alleviated. However, it’s important to remember that long-term success largely depends on continued reinforcement of these skills at home.

How many lessons are required to reach the training target?

The number of lessons required depends on your dog’s individual situation, which will be evaluated by our dog trainer. The number of lessons can be adjusted according to actual progress. Our basic plan consists of three lessons:

First Lesson: We’ll investigate the root cause of the problem, explain the methods to be used, demonstrate and teach you how to use the correct tools and methods.

Second Lesson: We’ll focus on addressing the problem and consolidating your skills as an owner.

Third LessonWe’ll work on strengthening your leadership position and further following up on the problem.

Typically, lessons are carried out on a weekly basis. Each week, you’ll be given exercises and activities to do with your dog according to the trainer’s instructions. We also encourage you to send videos to the trainer for follow-up reviews.

Of course, every case is unique. For more serious cases where the owner needs substantial support, classes can be held more frequently.

What should I prepare for the dog training lesson?

Our dog trainer will bring all the necessary tools for the lessons. However, since every dog is unique, we advise you to prepare items that your dog finds attractive and is responsive to. These could be favorite foods or toys. These items will be used as rewards when your dog displays ideal behaviour.

If you’re unsure about what your dog prefers, we recommend buying a variety of toys and treats and testing them out. You’ll soon discover what your dog likes best. Remember, rewards aren’t limited to toys and treats. They can be in the form of verbal praise or even a loving pat or massage.

So, while attractive toys and food are the basics, you can prepare anything that your dog likes. The most important thing is that it should be safe and harmless.

When and where are the class held?

The class will be held at the mutually agreed time slot. Trainer may arrive 15 mins earlier or later. Therefore, please reserve adequate time for the lesson. For clients living in remote areas, such as island district, the trainer may arrive 30 mins earlier or later due to the sparse transportation network.

The training class takes place at where the dog lives and where the problems occur. We believe this is the most effective and direct way to solve the problem.

I am busy and can't attend the lesson, can I pass the dog to the dog trainer for training?

We often hear from owners who say their dogs only listen to one particular person in the house. This is typically because a dog responds to a person’s attitude, energy, and behaviour, not their identity. Therefore, it’s crucial for you, as the owner, to attend the class and learn how to interact with your dog correctly.

If you don’t attend the lessons, you won’t acquire the skills necessary to communicate the right messages to your dog. As a result, your dog may only behave when the trainer is present. You might now be thinking that this sounds more like training the owner than the dog. You’re right. A well-trained dog owner is essential to having a well-behaved dog.

Does everyone in the family need to attend the class?

While it’s not mandatory for all family members to attend every lesson, we strongly encourage everyone’s participation for optimal results. The golden rule in dog training is consistency. Having all family members on the same page and treating the dog in the same way helps prevent confusion for the dog. If consistency isn’t maintained, the dog may end up listening to only some family members and not others. Therefore, the more family members that participate in the training, the better the outcome is likely to be.

Angela has been helping us to train our 9 months old yorkie. She’s very knowledgable and experienced with animals. Very soon after she arrived during our first class, our dog was already much more well behaved. She also followed up with us in between the classes, sharing more tips to help us improve our home training and always super encouraging. I hope our dog will learn fast enough!

FIVE STARS!!!

My boy didn’t take it too well after staying at the dog hotel twice and his behaviour changed dramatically so we stopped travelling ever since.

Thanks to the Pet Sitting Diary, we could have a little get away. Angela visited us once before the service and noted down all the details. At first we were a bit worried if Keung was too difficult to deal with coz he got anxious easily but Angela handled him perfectly . We received very detail updates instantly everytime she arrived our flat until right before she left.

Angela also shared with us the dog walking technique that we could probably look into for Keung. She’s professional, caring and very patient . So glad we found the Pet Sitting Diary and met Angela. We are no longer grounded

Angela has been amazing with my standard poodle who has issues when he encounters other dogs on walks (barking, lunging). After just our first 90 minute session my dog was already responding to the commands and actions Angela taught us. She even sent follow up videos demonstrating what we had learned so that I could keep practising. I would definitely recommend Angela as she has already made such a difference for us!
